School of Business fosters cultural unity in its first-ever Football World Cup

The Global Engagement Section of the HKBU School of Business, in collaboration with the Hive Club, hosted the first-ever football competition, titled “Football World Cup” on 12 April. This event, a sequel to the successful Fun Run 2024, assembled a dynamic mix of over 50 HKBU business students across 14 countries, showcasing the globally integrated community within the School.

In his closing remark, Professor Gerard Prendergast, Associate Dean (Internationalisation) of the School of Business, highlighted football’s global popularity with 250 million registered players and a diverse fan base worldwide. This universal appeal led the School to choose football as a medium to bridge various cultures. He also emphasised the importance of cultural integration among students from diverse backgrounds, encouraging mutual learning and understanding throughout their studies.

The School of Business, through the “Football World Cup”, has promoted a global perspective and cultivates an inclusive environment, setting students on a thriving academic journey. The event featured attractive prizes, including participation and diversity awards, to applaud the participants and underscore the School’s commitment to cultural inclusivity.
